Understanding What is an Escalation Order as per Lean Manufacturing.

What is an Escalation Order or rush order as per lean manufacturing

In this article, you will learn what is an escalation order according to lean six sigma and lean manufacturing.

Escalation Orders Definition.

Escalation order (also called a rush order or jumping order) is defined as a customer product purchase order confirmed between the manufacturer and the client, but which is advanced or re-scheduled to be manufactured before the expected default or original assigned planned date/time.

Escalation orders may be new orders or existing orders that are treated urgently and fast track into the manufacturing scheduling and process to advance its delivery time.

Escalation orders are defined as done service requests or production orders which are required and scheduled to be done before their corresponding (first-in and first-out) ordering rules.

Escalation orders may have the potential to trigger and result in either short orders, hold orders, orders rescheduled, etc.

Decision Criteria and Escalation.

It is important to clarify that some process steps depend on either specific criteria, or decisions to be made before and after.

All those criteria, including the ones used to support decisions, should be well defined, listed, and quantified.

In the event of any doubt, the escalation process should be clearly defined as it will be utilized to make the final decision.

Therefore, escalation is the process of intensifying the attention required.

In some cases, companies can automatically escalate service requests or manufacturing work orders based on certain rules. The rules required to escalate are defined as Escalation Rules.
